This road which appears in the animation In This Corner of the World has a slightly different appearance nowadays.
During WWII, a tall wooden fence ran along the seaward edge of the road to prevent people from observing the Naval facilities. The spot where Harumi sees a battleship through a gap in the wooden fence is now known as the “View of History” Hill.
