The Iron Whale Museum resides within the Akishio, a real-life decommissioned naval submarine

The decommissioned Akishio is the first real submarine put on display in Japan. Inside you can lay your hands on the controls, and learn the history of Japan’s Maritime Self Defense Force and the activities of its minesweepers.

Located across the street from the Yamato Museum.

Hours: 9:00pm – 5:00pm
Closed on Tuesday (if Tuesday is a national holiday, the museum will be closed on Wednesday)
