Old Naval Assembly Hall

Navy sailors who disembarked at Kure often whiled away shore leave at the facility depicted in this scene of the animated film In This Corner of the World.

The building boasted a very modern design at the time of its construction.

During WWII, steam engines ran in front of the building, their cars loaded with supplies for Kure’s Naval arms and ammunition factories. After the war, the building was painted red, which is how it appears today.
