The Mitsugura warehouses appear in several scenes of the animated film In This Corner of the World, such as when Suzu goes to the black market to buy sugar.
Mitsugura is a warehouse made with thick mud walls built-in 1809, and has been recognized as an important cultural property. The three identical buildings lined up next to each other makes Mitsugura a unique example of 19th century architecture.
Because the warehouses are located outside of the central region of Kure, they were not destroyed in the air raids which hit Kure on 1st July 1945. Even today you can see these antique warehouses as they appeared at the time of their construction.
